About Salah Sahal Wardhere's Recovery
Mr Salah Sahal Wardhere, an international patient from Somalia, had been experiencing persistent liver-related health issues for a long time. After undergoing a diagnostic evaluation, he was diagnosed with a liver tumor. Due to his age and the position of the lesion, traditional surgery posed a high risk. Seeking advanced treatment, he travelled to Medicover Hospitals Cancer Institute, HITEC City, Hyderabad, where he consulted Dr Sridhar Reddy Baddam, Senior Consultant Vascular & Oncointerventional Specialist.
Our oncology team recommended and performed TACE (Selective Chemo Embolization), a minimally invasive interventional oncology procedure, leading to a positive recovery outcome.
Patient's Words
"For a long time, I suffered from liver-related issues. After diagnosis in my country, I was told that I had a liver tumor. Surgery was advised, but due to my age and the position of the tumor, it was risky. I decided to travel to India and came to Medicover Hospitals, where I met Dr Sridhar Reddy Baddam.
After evaluating my condition, he performed Selective Chemo Embolization (TACE). After the procedure, the doctor reviewed my reports again and found that the tumor indicators had reduced. I am now feeling well and satisfied with the treatment.
I sincerely thank Dr Sridhar Reddy Baddam and the entire Medicover team for their excellent care and support." - Mr Salah Sahal Wardhere.
What is a Liver Tumor?
A liver tumor is an abnormal growth of cells in the liver. It can be:
- Benign (non-cancerous) or
- Malignant (cancerous) such as Hepatocellular Carcinoma
Symptoms may include fatigue, abdominal pain, weight loss, or can sometimes be silent and discovered during scans.
What Treatment Did We Provide for Salah Sahal Wardhere at Medicover Hospitals?
The patient underwent TACE (Transarterial Chemoembolization) under Dr Sridhar Reddy Baddam and the interventional oncology team.
TACE Treatment Process:
- A targeted catheter is guided into the blood vessel supplying the tumor.
- Chemotherapy drugs are delivered directly into the tumor.
- The vessel is then blocked (embolized) to cut off the blood supply feeding the tumor.
This approach:
- Reduces tumor size
- Limits cancer growth
- Minimizes damage to healthy liver tissue
- Offers a safe alternative when surgery is not advisable
The treatment outcome was positive, and the patient experienced improvement with reduced tumor indicators.
