For the First Time in Navi Mumbai, Medicover Hospital Launches Advanced Urodynamic Study Services
05 Feb 2026 | Medicover Hospitals | Navi MumbaiFor the First Time, Medicover Hospitals has launched advanced Urodynamic Study (UDS) services in Navi Mumbai. This marks a significant step forward in the diagnosis and treatment of bladder and urinary tract disorders.
The newly introduced UDS service allows for real-time assessment of bladder function. This helps physicians arrive at accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment plans for patients suffering from urinary problems. This advanced diagnostic facility aims to significantly improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
Addressing a Common but Often Ignored Health Issue
Urinary problems are increasingly seen in both men and women.
They are commonly linked to:
- Ageing
- Lifestyle changes
- Diabetes
- Prostate enlargement
- Childbirth and menopause
- Neurological conditions
Many patients live with symptoms for years without a clear diagnosis. The introduction of urodynamic study services in Navi Mumbai helps bridge this gap.
What Is a Urodynamic Study?
A urodynamic study is a group of specialized tests that assess how the lower urinary tract functions.
Unlike standard scans that only show the structure, UDS measures:
- Bladder pressure
- Urine flow
- Muscle and nerve coordination
- Bladder behaviour during filling and emptying
This allows doctors to identify the exact cause of urinary symptoms.
Core Components of a Urodynamic Study
- Uroflowmetry measures the speed and volume of urine flow during urination.
- Post-void residual (PVR) measurement estimates the amount of urine remaining in the bladder after urination.
- Cystometry (Cystometrogram) assesses bladder capacity, sensation, and pressure during bladder filling.
- Pressure-flow study identifies obstructions such as weak bladder muscles or an enlarged prostate.
- Electromyography (EMG) monitors nerve and muscle activity around the bladder and sphincters.
- Video urodynamics combines pressure data with imaging to study bladder shape and function in real time.
Clinical Insight
Dr Vikas D Bhise, Consultant Urologist, Andrologist & Transplant Surgeon, said:
"Urodynamic studies are indicated when conventional treatments fail or when a detailed evaluation is needed before surgery. They help determine whether urinary symptoms are caused by weak bladder muscles, neurological problems, or a physical obstruction. Without timely treatment, such problems can lead to recurrent infections, kidney damage, and a reduced quality of life."
He added that this test usually causes only mild discomfort and does not require anesthesia. Temporary symptoms such as mild burning or traces of blood in the urine may occur and usually resolve within 24 to 48 hours.
Dr Sanish Shringarpure, Consultant Urologist & Andrologist, said:
"Urodynamic studies help us plan targeted treatment and avoid unnecessary medications or surgeries. Many patients believe that urinary problems are a normal part of aging and suffer in silence. With UDS, we can identify the root cause and provide precise, effective treatment."
Bringing Advanced Diagnostics Closer to Patients
MR Sandip Joshi, Centre Head, Medicover Hospital, said:
"The introduction of urodynamic studies reflects our commitment to making advanced diagnostic services available locally. Accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment. This service will help in improving clinical outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for patients."
