What is a periampullary carcinoma
Periampullary carcinoma is a type of cancer that develops near the ampulla of Vater, where the bile duct and pancreatic duct open into the small intestine. Because this area plays an important role in digestion, tumors here can cause early symptoms, most commonly related to bile flow blockage.
- Common symptoms include jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin), abdominal discomfort, nausea and pale-colored stools.
- The location of the tumor makes treatment challenging, as it is close to vital organs such as the pancreas, bile ducts and intestine.
- Surgery is usually the main treatment, often followed by additional therapies like chemotherapy or radiation depending on the individual case.

- Focused post-operative care supported quick healing, allowing Bhadramma to recover and be discharged within one week.
