About Hasini's Treatment and Recovery
Hasini was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition commonly known as a "hole in the heart," which required timely and specialized medical care. Concerned about her health and future well-being, her family approached Medicover Hospitals, Visakhapatnam, seeking expert cardiac treatment.
Under the care of Dr Karunakara Padhy, CTVS Surgeon, Hasini was thoroughly evaluated and diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a complex congenital heart condition. After careful planning and counseling, the medical team recommended an Intracardiac Repair (ICR) as the most effective treatment. This major heart surgery marked the beginning of Hasini's journey toward improved heart function and a healthier, more active life.

What is a Hole in the Heart?
A "hole in the heart" usually refers to congenital heart defects such as Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) or Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), where there is an abnormal opening between the heart chambers. In Hasini's case, the condition was part of Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a complex congenital heart disease present from birth.
Tetralogy of Fallot includes four structural heart defects, one of which is a VSD. These defects disturb normal blood flow and reduce oxygen supply to the body.
Symptoms may vary based on severity and can include:
- Shortness of breath, especially during activity
- Easy tiredness or fatigue
- Irregular heartbeat or palpitations
- Bluish discoloration of the lips or skin in severe cases
Complex heart conditions like TOF usually require surgical correction to restore normal blood flow, improve oxygen levels, and prevent long-term complications.
What Treatment did we provide to Hasini at Medicover?
At Medicover Hospitals, Visakhapatnam, Hasini underwent a successful Intracardiac Repair (ICR) for Tetralogy of Fallot under the expert care of Dr Karunakara Padhy and the cardiothoracic surgical team.
This surgery was necessary to correct the multiple heart defects associated with TOF and enable the heart to function effectively.
The treatment process included:
- Correction of Heart Defects: Closure of the ventricular septal defect and widening of the narrowed pathway to the lungs to improve blood flow.
- Intracardiac Repair Surgery: Comprehensive surgical correction to restore normal heart structure and circulation.
- Post-operative Care: Close monitoring, compassionate nursing care, and medical supervision ensured a smooth recovery and comfortable hospital stay.
