First MyClip Procedure in Navi Mumbai, Medicover Hospital Saves High-Risk Heart Patient Without Open Surgery

16 Feb 2026 | Medicover Hospitals | Navi Mumbai

Medicover Hospital has achieved a significant milestone in advanced cardiac care. We successfully performed the first MyClip (Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair) procedure in Navi Mumbai. The life-saving intervention was performed on a 55-year-old man who was at very high risk for repeat open-heart surgery.

The patient, Mr. Tak (name changed), presented with persistent chest pain and worsening shortness of breath in January 2026. Our diagnosis revealed that he had severe functional mitral regurgitation and a 25% reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). This indicates advanced heart failure.

Adding to the complication, the patient had previously undergone coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in 2019. Further evaluation showed LIMA-LAD graft failure, which compromises the blood supply to the heart muscle. Due to his poor heart function and previous surgery, a repeat open-heart operation would be life-threatening.

A Life Saving Strategy

After a thorough evaluation, Medicover’s multidisciplinary heart team decided on a step-by-step, minimally invasive approach.

The first step involves successful percutaneous coronary intervention (angioplasty) of the native LAD artery, which restores adequate blood flow.

After stabilization of the coronary circulation, the team proceeded with non-surgical transcatheter mitral valve repair using the MyClip device.

Precision Treatment Without Open Surgery

The procedure was led by Dr. Anup Vineet Mahajani, a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, and the cardiac team.

Two MyClips were deployed to reduce the severe valve leakage. The post-procedure assessment confirmed:

  • Mitral regurgitation reduced to less than mild
  • Excellent valve gradients
  • Immediate clinical improvement

Total procedure time was approximately two hours. The patient recovered smoothly and was discharged the next day.

At one-month follow-up, his heart-pumping capacity improved significantly, from 25% to 45%, indicating functional recovery.

A Landmark for Navi Mumbai

Dr. Anup Mahajani said:

"This patient had a very weak heart and severe mitral valve leakage, and the bypass graft had failed. Repeat open-heart surgery was very high risk. A carefully planned minimally invasive strategy allowed us to restore coronary flow and repair the valve without surgical trauma. This represents the first MyClip procedure performed in Navi Mumbai and reflects the growing capacity of advanced structural heart interventions in the region."

He said that timely intervention is crucial. Without treatment, the patient is at high risk of progressive heart failure and life-threatening complications.

Patient's Words

Mr. Tak shared:

"I was very worried because I had already undergone bypass surgery. When I was told that open surgery was risky, I was scared. The doctors clearly explained the minimally invasive option and gave me confidence. I am grateful to Dr. Anup Mahajani and the Medicover team for giving me a second chance without another major surgery."
