What is Selenium sulfide
Selenium sulfide is an antifungal medication. This prevents fungus from growing in the skin. The medication is used for treating dandruff, seborrhea and tinea versicolor. Anti-infective selenium sulphide relieves scratching and flaking of the scalp while also removing the gritty, scaly particles that cause dandruff or seborrhea.
Selenium Sulfide Uses
This drug is used to treat dandruff and a specific type of scalp infection (seborrheic dermatitis). It relieves scalp scratching, flaking, inflammation, and redness. Selenium sulphide is also used to treat a skin disorder that results in discoloration (tinea versicolor). Anti-infectives are a form of drug that is used to treat infections. It functions by reducing the amount of yeast that causes the infection.

The common side effects don’t need any medical attention and will disappear as your body gets adjusted to the dosage. But if you are facing any kind of serious or rare side effects then immediately seek medical attention.
Precautions:
Before using Selenium sulfide talk with your doctor if you are allergic to it or any other medications related to it. The product will contain some serious allergic reactions or other serious problems. Before using this medication talk to your doctor if you are having any medical history such as red, irritating and broken skin. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
How to take Selegiline?
Follow the instructions on the label for Selenium Sulfide Topical (Selsun Blue) or as instructed by your doctor. Avoid using the medications for a longer period. Before each use, give the selenium sulphide foam, lotion, or shampoo a good shake. After using the foam or lotion, wash your face.
Thoroughly rinse the shampoo. Do not leave it in your hair for an extended period of time. Selenium sulphide topical shampoo should not be used on a regular basis. Follow the directions on the package or the advice of your doctor.
To use Selenium sulfide for dandruff:
- Wet the hair and scalp with lukewarm water before using this drug.
- Work up a lather on the scalp with enough medication (1 or 2 teaspoonfuls). Allow 2 to 3 minutes for the lather to remain on the scalp before rinsing.
- Apply the medication once more and thoroughly rinse.
- To minimise the risk of hair discoloration, rinse your hair thoroughly for at least 5 minutes after using this medicine on light or blond, dark, or chemically treated (bleached, tinted, permanent-waved) hair.
- Clean your hands thoroughly after treatment.
To use Selenium Sulfide for Tinea Versicolor of the body:
- Except for your face and genitals, apply the drug to the affected areas of your body
- Work up a lather with small amount of water
- Allow 10 minutes for the medication to remain on your skin.
- Rinse the body thoroughly and get rid of all the medication.
Missed Dose
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it's time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the daily dosing schedule. To make up for a missed dose, avoid adding a second dose to it.
Overdose
Overdose of this medication can lead to some serious side effects like irregular heartbeat, trouble while breathing, severe dizziness and fainting.
Storage:
Direct contact with heat, air and light may damage your medicines. Exposure to medicine may cause some harmful effects. The medicine must be kept in a safe place and out of children’s reach. Mainly the drug should be kept at room temperature between 68ºF and 77ºF (20ºC and 25ºC).
