What is Tuberculous Meningitis with Seizures S/P VP Shunt

Tuberculous Meningitis (TBM) is a serious form of tuberculosis affecting the meninges, the protective membranes around the brain and spinal cord. In children, it can lead to inflammation and fluid buildup (hydrocephalus), often causing seizures.

Symptoms can include severe headache, fever, stiff neck and changes in mental alertness.
Seizures are common due to swelling in the brain or complications like hydrocephalus.
Treatment requires a long course of anti-TB medications, usually for at least 12 months, sometimes with corticosteroids to reduce inflammation.
Hydrocephalus may require a Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt, a small tube and valve system that drains excess fluid from the brain to the abdomen, relieving pressure.
