Patient Words
I am Chittanjan Kumar Ranjan, Ayansh's father. My son underwent pediatric tongue-tie surgery at Medicover Hospitals, and Dr Rajendra Waghela successfully performed the procedure to correct his restricted tongue movement. We are relieved that Ayansh has recovered well and is currently in good health. We are delighted with the medical team's expertise and the nursing staff's quality of care. Overall, our experience with the surgery and the hospital's standard of care has been very positive.
What is Ankyloglossia (Tongue-Tie)?
Ankyloglossia, commonly called tongue-tie, is a congenital condition in which the lingual frenulum (the band of tissue beneath the tongue) is unusually short, thick, or tight. This limits the tongue's range of motion and can interfere with feeding in infants, as well as speech development and oral hygiene in later childhood.
Common signs and symptoms include:
- Difficulty lifting or moving the tongue freely
- Problems with breastfeeding or latching in infants
- Speech clarity issues in older children
- A heart-shaped appearance of the tongue when extended
Treatment depends on severity and symptoms. When functional problems are present, a minor surgical procedure is recommended to release the frenulum and restore normal tongue movement.
What Treatment did we provide to Ayansh Singh at Medicover?
At Medicover Hospitals, Ayansh Singh underwent tongue tie release surgery in the form of a frenotomy or frenuloplasty. Under the expert care of Dr Rajendra Waghela, ENT specialist, this procedure was chosen as the optimal treatment to release the restricted tongue and improve mobility.
The treatment process included:
- Careful evaluation of tongue restriction and functional limitation
- Surgical release of the tethered lingual frenulum
- Post-procedure observation and supportive nursing care
Ayansh's successful recovery reflects the precision of the surgical intervention and the compassionate pediatric care provided by the ENT and nursing teams, supporting his healthy growth and development.
