I am grateful to share my positive experience at Medicover Hospitals. After being admitted in an emergency, the medical team led by Dr Kamruddin Ahmed managed my condition with angiography followed by angioplasty. I was especially impressed by the professionalism, attentiveness, and cooperative nature of the nursing staff during my recovery. I feel well now and am completely satisfied with the effective treatment that restored my health.
What are Angiography and Angioplasty?
Angiography and Angioplasty are commonly performed cardiac procedures used to diagnose and treat blocked or narrowed arteries. These blockages reduce blood flow to the heart and can cause serious symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness, or heart failure.
Angiography is a diagnostic test in which a contrast dye and X-ray imaging are used to clearly visualize the blood vessels and identify blockages. If a significant blockage is detected, angioplasty is often performed immediately as part of the same procedure.
Angioplasty involves:
- Inserting a thin catheter through a blood vessel in the arm or groin
- Inflating a small balloon at the site of narrowing to open the artery
- Placing a stent in most cases to keep the artery open and restore blood flow
