Medicover Navi Mumbai stroke unit acknowledgements

Dr Pawan Kumar Ojha, Consultant Neurologist and Director – Neurosciences (Maharashtra), Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, Said:

"A stroke is a medical emergency that every minute counts. Delayed recognition and treatment can lead to permanent brain damage or disability. Our goal is not only to treat stroke but also to create stronger community awareness about early symptoms and the importance of timely medical attention."

"Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and disability in India. Many patients lose valuable recovery time due to delayed hospital arrival or misinterpretation of symptoms. With this dedicated stroke unit, we are committed to saving lives, improving recovery outcomes, and helping patients return to meaningful, independent living".

Talking about stroke, he said, “A stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted (ischemic stroke) or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts (haemorrhagic stroke).”

Common causes include uncontrolled high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, heart disease and a sedentary lifestyle. Recognising symptoms quickly and receiving immediate treatment is crucial.

The widely used BEFAST mnemonic helps identify early signs:

  • Balance issues,
  • Eye/vision changes,
  • Face drooping
  • Arm weakness
  • Speech difficulty
  • Time to seek emergency care.

Speaking about the launch, Sandip Joshi, Center Head, Medicover Hospitals Navi Mumbai, said,

"This comprehensive stroke unit highlights our focus on providing fast, accurate and compassionate emergency neurological care. Our team, technology, and patient-first approach ensure that stroke patients receive the most effective treatment when it matters the most."

If anyone experiences sudden weakness, slurred speech, vision problems, dizziness, or severe headache, immediate medical attention should be sought without delay.
