A Message That Touched Many Lives
Speaking on the occasion, the Honourable Minister for State Small Scale Industries and NRI Affairs, Shri Kondapalli Srinivas, emphasized the profound impact of organ donation.
He shared that “Organ donation is the most selfless act of giving. It is enabling a single donor to save up to eight lives and allowing an individual to live on even after death.” He also personally felicitated the families who came forward to donate organs, acknowledging their courage and compassion.
MLA, Pusapati Aditi Vijayalakshmi Gajapathi Raju appreciated the growing awareness about organ donation and appealed to the public to actively participate in spreading this life-saving message throughout society.
One Decision Can Save Eight Lives
Dr. K. Rambabu, Director of AP Jeevan Daan (VIMS & CTC), delivered a thought-provoking speech on organ donation. He highlighted how public perception has changed over time, drawing a parallel to blood donation, which was once feared but is now widely accepted.
Dr. Rambabu explained that instead of cremation, donating organs from a brain-dead person can save up to eight lives.
He expressed concern that while nearly 5,000 people have registered under Jeevan Daan in Andhra Pradesh, a large number are still on the waiting list, particularly for kidney transplants.
He urged citizens to overcome misconceptions and participate in both organ donation and body donation, which also plays a crucial role in medical education and training future doctors.
A New Chapter for Vizianagaram
Dr Tirumala Prasad, Managing Director, Medicover Hospital, said:
“We are proud to have successfully completed the first kidney transplant in the history of Vizianagaram district. This marks a new chapter in advanced healthcare for the region. The patient is currently recovering well.”
The programme was attended by Dr Jagadish, Dr Surya Nihar, Dr Sudheer Naidu, Dr Ashok, Center Head Mallikarjun Reddy, senior doctors, healthcare professionals, and members of the community.
