Overview
A 41-year-old man from West Bengal had been living with diabetes for only three years. But during this
short period, he developed severe kidney damage, something that usually takes 10-15 years to occur
in diabetes patients. This made his case extremely rare and medically challenging.
Over time, his kidneys began to fail. He became weak, tired, and unable to carry out daily activities
like before. To stay alive, he had to undergo dialysis three times a week. The routine was exhausting and
affected the emotional and financial stability of his family.
Diagnosis Findings
A kidney biopsy confirmed diabetic kidney disease
much earlier than expected. This meant that the kidneys had already lost their function and a transplant
was the only hope to save his life.
His wife, seeing her husband's pain, made a courageous decision. She chose to donate her kidney to him.
This choice was not only medical but also an act of love, strength, and commitment. Her sacrifice gave her
husband a second chance at life.
Kidney Transplant Surgery at Medicover Hospital
The surgery was performed at our Medicover Hospital,
Bengaluru, where a skilled transplant team took charge.
The procedure was led by the transplant surgery performed by:
Our team planned the surgery thoroughly to ensure the best possible outcome. During the operation, the
donor kidney was placed and blood flow was restored.
The new kidney began working immediately, producing urine right after the surgery, which is a very
positive sign.
After the procedure, the patient was moved to post-transplant critical care, where he was closely
monitored. His recovery has been steady, stable, and promising.
Doctor’s Insight
Dr Hareesha Babu shared:
“Kidney damage due to diabetes usually occurs only after 10 years. But in this case, the
patient developed kidney failure within just 3 years. This shows the importance of early detection and
treatment. Regular check-ups, lifestyle modifications & avoiding regular pain killer medication use
without medical supervision can help prevent kidney damage.”
Every successful transplant is not just a medical success. It is the beginning of a new life for a
family. If you or your loved one is struggling with kidney disease, don't hesitate to seek help. Book your
