What is a Kidney Stone
A kidney stone is a hard mass formed from minerals and salts that build up inside the kidneys. These stones develop when the urine becomes concentrated, allowing minerals to crystallize and stick together. Small stones may pass on their own, but larger stones can block the flow of urine and cause severe pain and other complications.
- Common symptoms include sharp pain in the side or back, pain during urination, blood in the urine, nausea, vomiting and frequent urges to urinate.
- Kidney stones can be made of different substances such as calcium, uric acid, or other minerals.
- Treatment depends on the size and location of the stone and may include medicines, increased fluid intake, or minimally invasive procedures for larger stones.
What Treatment did we provide to M Sai Nath at Medicover?
At Medicover Hospitals, Kurnool, M Sai Nath underwent Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) under the care of Dr Abdul Samad. RIRS is a minimally invasive procedure used to remove kidney stones without making any cuts on the body. A thin, flexible tube is gently passed through the natural urinary pathway to reach the kidney, allowing precise treatment of the stone.
- During the procedure, the kidney stone was broken into very small pieces using laser energy.
- The tiny fragments were either removed or allowed to pass naturally through urine.
- This approach helped reduce pain, shorten hospital stay, and support faster recovery, enabling M Sai Nath to return to his routine activities sooner.
