Patient Words
I was diagnosed with Native Kidney Disease - ADPKD and underwent a successful Live Renal Transplantation, with my father donating his kidney. Under the expert care of Dr Hareesha Babu K at Medicover Hospitals, Whitefield, my recovery has been smooth and reassuring. I am grateful for the constant support and care from the entire transplant team. This experience has truly changed my life for the better.
What is Native Kidney Disease - ADPKD?
Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) is a chronic genetic disorder in which multiple fluid-filled cysts develop in the kidneys. Over time, these cysts enlarge and replace healthy kidney tissue, leading to progressive loss of kidney function and, eventually, end-stage renal disease.
Common symptoms and complications of ADPKD include:
- Persistent back or flank pain
- High blood pressure
- Blood in the urine (hematuria)
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
- Kidney stones
While ADPKD cannot be cured, early monitoring and medical management can slow disease progression. When kidney failure develops, renal transplantation offers the most effective long-term solution.
What Treatment did we provide to Sujani at Medicover?
Considering the advanced stage of Sujani's ADPKD, the most definitive and effective treatment was a Live Renal Transplantation. This procedure involved replacing her failing kidneys with a healthy kidney donated by her father.
Live donor kidney transplantation offers several advantages, including shorter waiting time and better long-term outcomes. Sujani's treatment journey included:
- Comprehensive medical and compatibility evaluation of both recipient and the donor
- Carefully planned donor nephrectomy and kidney transplantation
- Advanced surgical execution under the leadership of Dr Hareesha Babu K
- Intensive post-operative monitoring and immunosuppressive therapy to prevent rejection
With continuous support from the Nephrology and Transplant team, Sujani achieved a successful recovery and is now on a positive path toward long-term health and well-being.
