What is a Foreign Body Aspiration?
Foreign Body Aspiration (FBA) occurs when an object is accidentally inhaled into the airway instead of being swallowed. This condition is most commonly seen in children due to their tendency to put small objects into their mouths.
Once lodged in the airway, the object can partially or completely block airflow, making FBA a medical emergency.
Common symptoms include:
- Sudden coughing or choking episodes
- Noisy breathing or wheezing
- Difficulty or rapid breathing
- Chest discomfort or repeated respiratory infections
If not treated promptly, foreign body aspiration can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia, lung collapse, infection, or oxygen deprivation.
What Treatment did we provide to Sonraj Khan at Medicover?
Considering the emergency nature of Sonraj Khan's condition, the medical team at Medicover Hospitals proceeded with aBronchoscopy, performed by Dr Manjunath B G. This procedure is the gold-standard treatment for removing inhaled foreign objects.
