Promethazine is available in the group of drugs called phenothiazines. Promethazine works as an antihistamine. This blocks the effects of naturally occurring chemical histamine in the body.

Adult dosage (ages 18–64 years)
- Promethazine 25 mg taken during bedtime.

- Dosage ranging from 6.25 mg to 12.5 mg is taken 3 times a day.
Dosage for motion sickness
Adult dosage (ages 18–64 years)
- Promethazine 25 mg is taken twice in a day.
Dosage for nausea and vomiting
Adult dosage (ages 18–64 years)
- Promethazine 12.5 mg and 25 mg can be taken in every 4 to 6 hours as needed.

- Promethazine 26-50 mg every 8 hours
Missed Dose
Missing one or two-dose of Promethazine won’t show any effect on your body. The skipped dose causes no problem. But with some medication, it won’t work if you don’t take the dosage on time. If you miss a dose some sudden chemical change may affect your body. In some cases, your doctor would advise you to take the prescribed medicine as soon as possible if you have missed the dose.

For people with breathing problems
This drug can thicken secretions in the breathing tubes. If you have asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), this can cause an asthma attack or make your COPD worse. The medicine should not be taken during an acute asthma attack or if you have COPD.
For people with sleep apnea
This medicine can thicken the secretions in your breathing tubes. If you have sleep apnea, taking this drug at night may make your condition worse.
For people with seizures
This drug increases your risk of seizures. Talk to your doctor if you take other medications that can cause seizures. Taking these medications together can increase this risk.
Storage
Direct contact with heat, air and light may damage your medicines. The exposure of medicine may cause some harmful effects. The medicine must be kept in a safe place and out of children’s reach.
Mainly the drug should be kept at room temperature between 68ºF and 77ºF (20ºC and 25ºC).
