Dr Shivashankar Diggikar

Dr. Shivashankar Diggikar is a highly trained Neonatologist and Pediatrician with extensive expertise in managing preterm babies, extremely premature infants, neonatal intensive care, and complex newborn conditions. He completed his pediatric training at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute and later pursued specialized neonatology training at Manipal Hospitals under the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP). He further advanced his clinical training in the United Kingdom at Homerton University Hospital, London, where he completed core neonatal training under the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH).

Dr. Diggikar has significant experience in treating extreme prematurity (from 23 weeks gestation), neonatal infections, jaundice, sick infants, ventilation support, neonatal surgical care, persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN), neonatal encephalopathy, and sepsis. Recognized as a top neonatologist, he is skilled in advanced neonatal monitoring and bedside imaging techniques including echocardiography, cranial ultrasound, and thoracic ultrasound to improve clinical outcomes for newborns.

His academic qualifications include MBBS, MD, MRCPCH, FRCPCH (UK), FRCPI (Ireland), MBA in Healthcare & Hospital Management from BITS Pilani, and PG Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics from the National Law School of India University. He has also completed a Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship in London (RCPCH affiliate) and a Neonatal Fellowship under IAP.

Dr. Diggikar has a strong academic and research background with more than 30 publications in international journals (h-index 10) and contributions to textbook chapters, scientific presentations, and conferences. His research interests include neonatal brain injury prevention, neurodevelopmental follow-up, and advanced neonatal imaging techniques. He is trained in Bayley's Neurodevelopmental Assessment and Prechtl's assessment for high-risk babies.

He currently serves as Associate Editor of BMJ - Paediatrics Open Journal and is an NABH Assessor for hospitals. He has also held important leadership roles including Executive Board Member of the National Neonatology Forum (Karnataka) and Joint Secretary of NNF (Karnataka). Among his notable achievements, he successfully led NABH entry-level accreditation of Oyster Mother and Child Hospital (2024-25) and accredited the NICU at Ovum Woman and Child Speciality Hospital as Level IIIA (NNF). He has also participated as faculty and organizing member in major conferences such as IAP Neocon and Karneocon, and conducted workshops on neonatal cooling therapy and neonatal ventilation.
