aneurysm-in-brain

HYDERABAD, 20th June 2022: A vague headache and decreased vision in both eyes turned out to be a rare case of complex brain aneurysm for 50-year-old Nemya Nayak, a farmer from Parigi, Mahabubnagar.

Medicover Hospitals has successfully carried out a rare surgery to treat a patient who was diagnosed with large ACOM aneurysm in the brain, a condition which otherwise could have caused a fatal injury.

From past 1year, the patient was suffering from decreased vision in both eyes with unexplained headaches. He went to Medicover Hospitals, where ophthalmology evaluation and MRI of the brain were done, after which the doctor diagnosed him with a brain aneurysm, which was pressing a nerve affecting the vision of the patient. Aneurysms are thin outpouchings of blood vessels which are usually berry shaped.

In his case, if the aneurysm grows, he would have been at risk of complete loss of vision and if the aneurysm ruptures, he would have sustained a fatal subarachnoid haemorrhage. This was a challenging situation for the doctors to perform any intervention, as he had a history of coronary artery disease and a low ejection fraction.

With a detailed treatment plan for the patient, the doctors brought a ray of hope to the family who were losing hope after visiting many other hospitals. He underwent endovascular obliteration of the aneurysm. The doctors used an advanced device called “contour device” to stop the blood flow into the aneurysm. Contour device is an advanced basket-like device, placed inside the aneurysm that helps in the shrinkage of the aneurysm, which was used for the first time in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Finally, our KISHAN (Farmer-the family man) was successfully treated by a team of doctors at Medicover Hospitals in an uneventful procedure. He is now stable and has received immediate relief from headache and vision issues. His condition is further expected to improve gradually.

Most brain aneurysms induce no symptoms and are only identified during tests. An unruptured aneurysm will cause issues by pressing on parts of the brain. According to the doctor, symptoms of a brain aneurysm usually appear unexpectedly.

Since the brain is such a sensitive organ, it requires special attention and care during the procedure. The Neurology Center of Excellence at Medicover Hospitals provides best-in-class treatment choices for people with any neurological issue.

Nemya Nayak thanked Medicover Hospitals and the doctors for the prompt diagnosis and treatment that saved his life.
