What is Abilify?

Before taking Abilify talk with your doctor if you are allergic to it or any other medications. How to use Abilify?

Follow the doctor's instructions for taking Abilify. Your doctor can adjust your dosage from time to time to ensure you get the best results. This medication should not be taken in greater or smaller doses or for longer than prescribed. Avoid taking the medication for more than 6 weeks unless the doctor has prescribed it. The standard tablet should be swallowed whole, without being crushed, chewed, or broken.

Drugs forms and strengths

Abilify is the active ingredient in Aripiprazole. It comes in the form of tablets that must be swallowed. It also comes in the following strengths: 2 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg and 30 mg. The medication is also available in various forms: Oral disintegrating tablets, oral solution and injectable solution

Missed Dose

If you forget to take an Abilify dose, take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is approaching, simply skip the missed dose. Then take the next dose at your daily intervals. To make up for a missed dose, never take two doses at once. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about when to administer your next Abilify dose after missing a dose.

Overdose

If Abilify is taken excessively then it can cause severe side effects like vomiting, tremor, aggression and kidney disease. Abilify should not be used in excess of what the doctor prescribes. If you think you have taken too much medication then immediately consult a doctor.

Warnings for serious Health Conditions

Pregnancy

It's unclear if Abilify is safe to be taken when pregnant. Antipsychotic drugs, such as Abilify, do not appear to increase the risk of birth defects in pregnant women. They still don't seem to be at a greater risk of miscarriage. However, women who took antipsychotic drugs during their third trimester of pregnancy may have:

Extrapyramidal signs, such as tremors or trembling

Withdrawal symptoms, such as anxiety, tremors, or difficulty while breathing

Breastfeeding

It’s known if the medication is safe to be taken while breastfeeding. However, there is some information that shows that Abilify doesn’t pass into breast milk. If you’re breastfeeding or planning to feed talk with your doctor before you use this tablet. The doctor will give you a brief about various risks and benefits of the drug while breastfeeding.

Storage

Direct contact with heat, air and light may damage your medicines. Exposure to medicine may cause some harmful effects. The medicine must be kept in a safe place and out of children’s reach.

Mainly the drug should be kept at room temperature between 68ºF and 77ºF (20ºC and 25ºC).
