How to prepare
Before the surgery, you will have to have some tests, such as surgical blood tests and body scans, as suggested by your doctor. This is done to determine your overall general health.
The doctor will review your medical history and check if you have any bleeding problems, allergies, if you are pregnant, any other medical conditions, etc. If you're using certain medications or supplements, you may have to stop taking them.
The surgeon will conduct a physical examination of your nose to determine what kind of changes can be made. It also includes photographing the nose from different angles. These photos will be used for reference in the future and may be used during the surgical process.
Avoid certain habits like smoking, chewing tobacco, and excess alcohol consumption that affects your recovery period.
Book an appointment with a plastic surgeon or general surgeon for a rhinoplasty.
Procedure
A rhinoplasty procedure can be done in a hospital or an outpatient clinic. Depending upon the type of surgery, your surgeon will decide between local or general anaesthesia. If it's a simple surgery, the doctor will prefer to give you local anaesthesia for your nose, which will numb the nose and also your face. With general anaesthesia, you'll be completely unconscious, and children are not given general anaesthesia. Once you're into a deep sleep, the surgeon will begin an incision between or inside the nostrils. They'll disconnect your skin from the cartilage or bone and begin the nose reshaping process. If additional cartilage is required, the surgeon may take some amount from the ear or deep inside your nose. Rhinoplasty surgery takes nearly one to two hours to complete, and if the surgery is complex, it can take more time.
