Doctors from Medicover Hospitals(Formerly MaxCure) Saves a 12-year Old Boy Who Accidentally Swallowed a Sharp Pin during Ganesh nimajjanam 2016

September 17th Hyderabad: A 12-year-old young boy, Uday Goud (patient) from Shadnagar has been saved by doctors at Medicover Hospitals(Formerly MaxCure), Madhapur from a life-threatening situation caused by accidental ingestion of a 3-centimeter sharp pin. Uday Goud accidentally ingested a sharp pin during Ganesh Nimajjan. The boy was rushed to Magna Hospital – Shadnagar, where the doctors found (through an X-ray) a sharp pin lodged in the small intestines. Explaining the case Dr. M. Asha Subbalakshmi, HoD, Department of Gastroenterology said, “The child was referred to Medicover Hospitals on the same night by Dr. Kumar from Magna Hospital. We did another X-ray and found that the pin was indeed lodged in the small intestines.”

Dr. Asha Subbalakshmi decided to remove the pin endoscopically and saved the life of the patient. The surgery was for one and half hour and the pin was removed successfully. Elucidating on the case details, Dr. Asha Subbalakshmi explained, “The young boy almost lost his life to this sharp pin as the pin can decorate and rupture his small intestine which can be life-threatening. The small intestine has a narrow lumen compared to the stomach; hence, removal of any sharp foreign object from the small intestine is an extremely complex task that needs lots of skill and expertise.” “We urge people to be more careful with such things and appeal to the people to come to us for any of such emergencies,” she added. On successful removal of the pin, the boy’s family were delighted. The boy is recovering well and will be discharged in a few days. Such Skillful surgeries are performed at very few hospitals and Medicover Hospitals is proud to be one among them. This case is yet another reminder of the achievements of Medicover Hospitals.
