Tolnaftate Uses

Tolnaftate stops the growth of fungi which cause skin infections that includes athlete’s foot, jock itch and ringworm. This is an antifungal which works by preventing the growth of fungus. Tolnaftate is available in various brand names: Tinactin, Aftate, Barielle Fungus Rx, Breezee Mist Antifungal foot powder and Ting antifungal.

Tolnaftate Side Effects:

Irritation of treated skin may occur. If the medication shows some adverse effects then it can persists or worsen the skin, notify your doctor or pharmacist immediately. If your doctor has directed you to use this medicine, remember that he or she has determined that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.

Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Precautions:

How should I use Tolnaftate?

Use this medicine only on the skin. Clean and dry the area which should be treated well. Apply Tolnaftate to the skin which is affected. Apply the Tolnaftate cream twice a day or as directed on the product package or by the doctor. The dose and duration of treatment depend on the type of infection being treated. Some forms of tolnaftate (for example, powdered) must be shaken before applying. Check your product package to see if you need to shake the form of this medicine. After applying for this medicine, wash your hands. Do not wrap, cover, or bandage the area unless your doctor tells you to. Do not apply for this medicine in the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. Keep using the Tolnaftate cream until the prescribed amount is finished and even if the symptoms disappear after using tolnaftate. Tell your doctor if your condition persists after 2 weeks of treatment for jock itch, after 4 weeks of treatment for athlete's foot or ringworm, or if your condition worsens at any time.

Dosage:

Tinea Corporis
-Apply tolnaftate in the affected area for once or twice for 2 to 4 weeks

Tinea Cruris
-Apply tolnaftate in the affected area for once or twice for 2 to 4 weeks

Tinea Pedis
-Apply tolnaftate in the affected area for once or twice for 2 to 4 weeks

Tinea Versicolor
-Apply tolnaftate in the affected area for once or twice for 2 to 4 weeks

Tinea Corporis
-Apply tolnaftate in the affected area for once or twice for 2 to 4 weeks (For 2 years or older affected)

Tinea Cruris
-Apply tolnaftate in the affected area for once or twice for 2 to 4 weeks (For 2 years or older affected)

Tinea Pedis
-Apply tolnaftate in the affected area for once or twice for 2 to 4 weeks (For 2 years or older affected)

Tinea Versicolor
-Apply tolnaftate in the affected area for once or twice for 2 to 4 weeks (For 2 years or older affected)

Missed Dose:

Missing one or two-dose of tolnaftate won’t show any effect on your body. The skipped dose causes no problem. But with some medication, it won’t work if you don’t take the dosage on time. If you miss a dose some sudden chemical change may affect your body. In some cases, your doctor would advise you to take the prescribed medicine as soon as possible if you have missed the dose.

Overdose:

Overdose of a drug can be accidental. If you have taken more than the prescribed tolnaftate tablets there is a chance of getting a harmful effect on your body’s functions. Overdose of a medicine can lead to some medical emergency.

Storage:

Direct contact with heat, air and light may damage your medicines. The exposure of medicine may cause some harmful effects. The medicine must be kept in a safe place and out of children’s reach.

Mainly the drug should be kept at room temperature between 68ºF and 77ºF (20ºC and 25ºC).
