Baby’s Growth During First Month of Pregnancy

    Congratulations – you’ve just discovered that now you’re pregnant. Chances are that you’ll have found out within the first month of pregnancy, which is a critical point in your baby’s development period and will lay key foundations for the rest of her or his life. 

    However, many of the women will not even realize that they’re pregnant at this time, and may only find out once they are in their second month, because during one month pregnant belly almost reminds the same and it’s quite common to have a light period during the first cycle after becoming pregnant.

    Doctors calculate your due date from the 1st day of your last menstrual period, assuming an average 40 weeks long pregnancy. However, for the first two weeks of these 40, you’re not actually pregnant women. Conception where the sperm fertilizes the egg occurs about two weeks after your period.

    The amniotic fluid is forms around the fertilized egg. It helps to protect the growing embryo throughout pregnancy.

    The placenta also develops at this point of time in the first trimester. The placenta is a round, flat organ that transfers nutrients from the mother to the baby.

    A primitive face takes form with large dark circles for eyes. The mouth, lower jaw, and throat are developing. Blood cells are taking shape, and circulation will begin.

    At the end of the first month of pregnancy period, your baby size is around 6-7mm (1/4 inch) long – about the size of a grain of rice!
